Sign Planning Guides
Planning signage for a new building, a renovation or a rebrand? Here's how we approach it, step by step.
1. Walk the space
Start with the floor plans and a walk-through. Note every entrance, decision point, room and code-required location. For existing buildings, document the signs already in place.
2. Define your sign family
Group signs into types: room identification, directional, overhead, building directories, exterior and code signs. A consistent family makes the building easier to navigate and keeps reorders simple.
3. Build a message schedule
List every sign with its type, location and exact wording. This becomes the single source for proofs, production and installation.
4. Check codes and locations
Confirm which signs need tactile text and braille, where they mount, and any local requirements. See our ADA Information guide.
5. Set the budget and phasing
Price the program by sign type and quantity. Large campuses and rebrands can be phased building by building so work never stops.
6. Proof, fabricate and install
Approve proofs and samples, then we fabricate in our Largo shop and install on schedule.
7. Maintain and reorder
Keep a sign inventory so replacements and new rooms match the original program. Our clients can reorder from their own sign catalog in our client portal.
Quick checklist: code-required signs
- Restrooms and room identification
- Exit doors and exit routes
- Stair level identification
- Areas of refuge and accessible entrances, where applicable
